## Description

Rifugio Averau is situated at 2,413 m (7,917 ft) on the forcella (saddle) that divides the **Cortina d'Ampezzo** basin from the **Val Cordevole**. It rests at the base of the towering southern wall of **Monte Averau**, offering a dramatic limestone backdrop and expansive 360 degree views that encompass the **Civetta**, the **Marmolada** glacier, and the **Tofana di Rozes**.

While many huts are known for their basic dormitories, Averau has built a global reputation for its sophisticated kitchen. It is a primary stop on the **Alta Via 1** and serves as a vital junction for hikers moving between **Passo Giau** and the **Cinque Torri** area. The terrain here is a mix of high alpine meadows and jagged scree slopes, accessible via well-maintained trails or the **Sass de Stria** chairlift.

The interior features refined wood-paneled dining rooms and high-quality bedding, bridging the gap between a traditional mountain shelter and a boutique hotel. For those seeking adventure, the **Via Ferrata Averau** begins just a short walk from the front door, offering a steep but relatively short climb to the summit cross.
