## Description

Rifugio Carestiato sits at 1,834 m (6,017 ft) on the southern slopes of the **Civetta group**, overlooking the deep valley that separates Civetta from the **Moiazza** massif. The hut occupies an open grassy terrace with unobstructed views toward the sheer southeast face of **Monte Civetta** and the jagged ridgeline of the **Moiazza**. It falls within the municipality of **Alleghe** in the province of **Belluno**.

Despite its modest size, the hut is a valued waypoint for hikers linking the **Civetta** circuit or continuing south toward **Passo Duran**. It connects naturally with **Rifugio Vazzoler** to the west and **Rifugio Tissi** above **Alleghe**. The trails around the hut pass through mixed larch and spruce forest before opening onto high alpine meadows, offering a quieter and more contemplative hiking experience than the main Alta Via corridor.

The approach from **Alleghe** takes approximately two and a half hours via a well-marked trail through the forest. The hut is intimate, with 32 beds in dormitory rooms and simple but satisfying home-cooked meals. Its smaller capacity means it fills quickly, so reservations are strongly recommended for any overnight stay during the summer season.
