## Description

Rifugio Sonino al Coldai is positioned at 2,132 m (6,995 ft) on the northern edge of the **Civetta Group**. It serves as a critical junction for hikers traversing the **Alta Via 1** and those ascending from the village of **Alleghe** or the **Val di Zoldo**. The hut is built from local stone, hunkered down against the wind on a grassy saddle that transitions sharply into the dramatic, vertical limestone of the 'Wall of Walls.'

The primary draw for most visitors is the nearby **Lago del Coldai**, located just a 20 minute walk beyond the hut. This alpine lake sits in a glacial bowl, reflecting the jagged peaks of the **Civetta** in its deep green waters. For high-altitude trekkers, the hut is the final bit of civilization before entering the rugged, exposed terrain that runs along the western face of the massif toward **Rifugio Tissi**.

Access is most commonly achieved via the cable car from **Alleghe** to **Col dei Baldi**, followed by an uphill hike of approximately 1.5 hours (90 minutes). The refuge provides a traditional atmosphere with shared dormitories and a wood-beamed dining room serving hearty Bellunese mountain fare like casunziei and polenta.
