## Description

Rifugio Contrin sits at 2,016 m (6,614 ft) in the **Val Contrin**, a sweeping alpine valley on the southern side of the **Marmolada group** - the highest massif in the Dolomites at 3,343 m (10,968 ft). The hut looks directly up at the imposing south face of the **Marmolada**, a massive wall of pale limestone that contrasts sharply with the glacier-clad northern slopes.

The standard approach begins from **Alba di Canazei** in the **Val di Fassa**, following a well-graded trail through forest and meadows for approximately 2.5 hours (2.5 hours). The refuge also connects to the **Alta Via 2**, making it a natural stopover for trekkers heading between **Passo Pordoi** and the **Pale di San Martino** to the south.

With 80 beds in a mix of rooms and dormitories, the hut is one of the larger refuges in the area and offers a full restaurant service. It serves as a base camp for climbers tackling the Marmolada south face routes and for hikers exploring the surrounding **Costabella ridge** and **Passo di Ombretta**. The valley setting provides shelter from wind, making it a comfortable overnight even in unsettled weather.
