## Description

Rifugio Sennes stands at 2,126 m (6,975 ft) on the expansive **Sennes plateau**, one of the most distinctive high-altitude landscapes in the Dolomites. The plateau is an immense, gently undulating grassland dotted with sinkholes and karst formations, surrounded by a ring of peaks including the striking pyramid of **Croda del Becco (Seekofel)** to the northeast. The hut lies within the **Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park** near **San Vigilio di Marebbe**.

The open terrain gives Sennes a character unlike any other hut in the Dolomites - there are no enclosing walls or narrow valleys, just a vast horizon in every direction. The refuge links the **Fanes plateau** trail network to the west with routes descending to **Lago di Braies** to the east and **Rifugio Biella** to the south. It is a popular overnight for hikers doing multi-day traverses through the park, and the sunrise across the plateau is considered among the most beautiful in the region.

The most common approach is from **Pederü** near **San Vigilio di Marebbe**, a walk of roughly two hours on a broad and well-graded trail. The hut offers dormitory and private room accommodation with full board featuring traditional South Tyrolean cooking. With 58 beds it handles steady traffic, but summer weekends fill fast and advance reservations are strongly recommended.
