## Description

Rifugio Vandelli is located at 1,928 m (6,325 ft) on the shores of **Lago di Sorapis**, one of the most visually striking alpine lakes in the entire **Dolomites**. The lake's intense turquoise color - caused by glacial sediment suspended in the water - sits in a dramatic cirque beneath the sheer walls of the **Sorapis group** and the towering spire of **Dito di Dio (Finger of God)**.

The most popular approach starts from **Passo Tre Croci** above **Cortina d'Ampezzo**, following trail 215 for roughly 6 km (3.7 mi) through forest and along exposed ledges fitted with cables and metal steps. The hut is also an important waypoint on the **Alta Via 4**, connecting the **Cortina** basin to the eastern Dolomites toward **Auronzo di Cadore**.

The refuge offers 46 beds in shared dormitories and serves hearty mountain meals on its terrace overlooking the lake. Due to the trail's popularity on social media, the path can be extremely crowded in July and August. Starting early in the morning or staying overnight at the hut are the best strategies to enjoy the lake in relative peace.
