## Description

Schlernhaus - known in Italian as **Rifugio Bolzano al Catinaccio** - sits at 2,457 m (8,061 ft) on the vast summit plateau of **Sciliar (Schlern)**, the flat-topped mountain that has become a symbol of South Tyrol. The refuge accommodates around 110 guests across private rooms and dormitory beds, and is open from June through October. Its position atop the plateau provides sweeping views across the **Adige valley** to the west and toward the **Catinaccio (Rosengarten)** to the east.

The plateau itself is a unique alpine grassland, remarkably flat and open compared to the vertical terrain typical of the Dolomites. The twin rock towers of **Santner** and **Euringer** guard the western edge, while the gentle expanse stretches eastward toward **Monte Pez** at 2,563 m (8,409 ft). Trails connect to the **Alpe di Siusi** below and onward to the **Catinaccio** group via the **Tierser Alpl** refuge.

The main approach climbs from **Fiè allo Sciliar** or from the **Alpe di Siusi** via well-graded paths gaining roughly 800 m (2,625 ft). The hut has a long history dating to 1885 and retains a classic alpine atmosphere with wood-paneled dining rooms. It is a popular destination for day hikers from Siusi but overnight guests enjoy the plateau in solitude after the last cable car descends.
