Ücia Pices Fanes is tucked away at 2,012 m (6,601 ft) on the **Fanes plateau**, surrounded by the pale limestone towers and green meadows that define this corner of the **Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park**. With just seven beds, it is one of the smallest staffed mountain huts in the entire Dolomites - a genuine hideaway for those seeking solitude.

The hut is reached from **Rifugio Lavarella** via a gentle trail across the plateau, passing **Lago di Limo** - a rare natural lake whose water level fluctuates dramatically with the seasons. The walk takes approximately 45 minutes through open terrain with panoramic views in every direction. From the south, a trail connects through the **Val di Fanes** toward **Cortina d'Ampezzo**.

Despite its tiny size, the hut serves warm meals and drinks throughout the day. The Ladin family who runs it prepares simple dishes using local ingredients, and the atmosphere is remarkably personal. Booking ahead is not just recommended but practically required - with only seven places, a single group can fill the entire hut. The silence on the plateau after dark is absolute.
