An 11-day guided hut-to-hut traverse crossing the full breadth of the Dolomites from Verona to Venice. Eight days of walking connect the Rosengarten towers, the Alpe di Siusi, the remote Puez-Odle plateaus, Lagazuoi, the Tofane massif, and the north face of Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Mountain refuges for eight nights bookend a cultural crossing that starts in Roman Verona and ends on the Venetian lagoon.

### Day 1: Arrival in Verona

**Arrival day.** Arrive in Verona and check into your hotel. The evening is free to explore the Roman amphitheatre and the medieval centro storico. Your guide is available for a pre-departure briefing on the route ahead.

### Day 2: Passo Costalunga to Stella Alpina Refuge

- Distance: 12 km
- Time: 4 h
- Ascent: 810 m
- Descent: 550 m

**Into the Dolomites.** Transfer from Verona to Bolzano and onward to Passo Costalunga, where the walking begins at the foot of the Rosengarten massif. The trail climbs through larch forest and open meadows to the Stella Alpina Refuge at 2,000 m (6,562 ft), with the pale towers of Catinaccio glowing in the afternoon light.

### Day 3: Stella Alpina to Alpe di Tires Refuge

- Ascent: 850 m
- Descent: 400 m

**Rosengarten heights.** A demanding day that crosses beneath the main Rosengarten towers and descends into the broad Alpe di Tires basin. The pale rock walls and wildflower meadows of this circuit are among the most photogenic in the Dolomites. Overnight at the Alpe di Tires Refuge at 2,440 m (8,005 ft).

### Day 4: Alpe di Tires to Passo Sella

- Distance: 13 km

- Ascent: 450 m
- Descent: 600 m

**Across the Alpe di Siusi.** The route descends from the Rosengarten area and traverses the edge of the Alpe di Siusi - the largest high-altitude plateau in Europe - before climbing again to Passo Sella at 2,244 m (7,362 ft), with the vertical walls of the Sella Group rising directly ahead.

### Day 5: Passo Sella to Gardenaccia Refuge via Vallunga

- Distance: 14 km
- Time: 5 h
- Ascent: 1050 m
- Descent: 600 m

**The Vallunga canyon.** Today's standout section descends into the dramatic Vallunga canyon, a narrow gorge of pale limestone cutting deep into the Puez-Odle plateau. The route climbs out through increasingly open terrain to the Gardenaccia Refuge, perched at the edge of the high plateau above the Val Badia.

### Day 6: Gardenaccia to Dibona Refuge via Lagazuoi

- Distance: 13 km
- Time: 5 h
- Ascent: 1000 m
- Descent: 650 m

**Lagazuoi summit.** A long ridge walk across the Puez-Odle plateau leads toward the Lagazuoi massif. The climb to the summit at 2,778 m (9,114 ft) rewards with panoramic views spanning the entire Dolomites range. Descend to Falzarego Pass and continue to the Dibona Refuge on the Tofane side.

### Day 7: Dibona Refuge to Ra Stua via Travenanzes

- Distance: 14 km
- Time: 6 h
- Ascent: 850 m
- Descent: 1200 m

**Travenanzes canyon.** The most dramatic day of the traverse. The trail descends into the narrow Travenanzes canyon beneath the Tofane walls - a slot canyon of vertical rock above a rushing stream. The route emerges into the broad Ampezzo valley and climbs to the Ra Stua Refuge.

### Day 8: Ra Stua to Prato Piazza via Sennes

- Distance: 14 km
- Time: 5 h
- Ascent: 760 m
- Descent: 570 m

**The Sennes plateau.** A long traverse across the remote Sennes plateau inside the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. Marmots are common and the views north toward the Austrian Alps are clear on good days. The day ends at Prato Piazza, a broad highland meadow with the Croda Rossa forming a striking backdrop.

### Day 9: Prato Piazza to Auronzo Refuge near Tre Cime

- Distance: 15 km
- Time: 6 h
- Ascent: 1140 m
- Descent: 930 m

**Approaching the towers.** The final full hiking day heads south toward the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The trail crosses open terrain with the three towers visible from far off, growing with every step. The complete circuit around the north face at Auronzo Refuge provides the defining finish of the traverse.

### What fitness level is required for this traverse?

This tour is graded Medium (Level 3/5). Daily hiking ranges from 4 to 6.5 hours with significant elevation changes, reaching a maximum altitude of 2,958 m (9,705 ft). Prior multi-day hiking experience on mountain trails is strongly recommended.

### What are the sleeping arrangements in mountain refuges?

Most refuges offer shared dormitory rooms with bunk beds, blankets, and pillows provided. Some offer smaller rooms for 4 to 6 people. Bring a lightweight sleeping bag liner for hygiene and extra warmth.

### What happens if weather forces a route change?
