TL;DR

Passo Pordoi, at 2,239 m7,346 ft, links the Val di Fassa and Arabba, at the foot of the Sella. From the pass, the cable car climbs to the Sass Pordoi terrace, facing the Marmolada, where the Piz Boè climb begins, and the Bindelweg runs on foot towards Passo Fedaia.

Passo Pordoi (Pordoi Pass), at 2,239 m7,346 ft, links the Val di Fassa, on the Trentino side, to the Buchenstein valley and Arabba, on the Belluno side. It is the starting point for high-mountain outings at the foot of the Sella.

What can you see from Passo Pordoi?

The pass sits at the foot of the Sass Pordoi, between the Sella massif to the north and the Marmolada group to the south.

View on Map

The real view is at the top of the cable car, on the Sass Pordoi terrace: the Marmolada, the Sella group and the pyramid of Piz Boè, the Sassolungo and the Catinaccio, then, further away, the Tofane of Cortina and Monte Pelmo. Pick a clear day: that is the whole point of the ride.

How do you get to Passo Pordoi?

By bus, two lines serve the pass:

  • the B 130 from Canazei, in summer only: ask Trentino Trasporti, which runs it, for timetables;
  • Südtirol Mobil’s line 472, from the Val Gardena to the Val Badia via Passo Sella, the pass, Arabba and Passo Campolongo, every day from 7 June to 11 October in 2026 (line 472 timetable).

By gondola from Arabba: the Fodom lift runs from Pont de Vauz straight up to the pass.

On foot from Pecol, above Canazei (by car or on the lift from the village), a trail passes Rifugio Ciampolin and reaches the pass near the cable car station: 1 hour 15 minutes for 2.5 km1.6 mi and 314 m1,030 ft of ascent.

By car, the pass is on the SR 48 / SS 48. Two dates to know in 2027: the Sellaronda Bike Day on Saturday 5 June and the Maratona dles Dolomites on 4 July. Check traffic conditions with the organisers before driving up on those days.

What can you do from Passo Pordoi?

Ride the Sass Pordoi cable car: from 14 May to 1 November in 2026, from 9 am to 5 pm (4:30 pm from 19 October), at 18 EUR$21 one way and 32 EUR$37 return. Hours and prices: Val di Fassa tourist office (in Italian).

Piz Boè (3,152 m10,341 ft): the route starts from the cable car top station (2,947 m9,669 ft), with trail 627 to Rifugio Boè, then trail 638 to the summit. The loop is 7.8 km4.8 mi with 561 m1,841 ft of ascent, about 3 hours 15 minutes. This is a high-mountain route above 3,000 m9,843 ft, not a stroll from the cable car: only set out properly equipped and in good weather.

The Bindelweg to Passo Fedaia: from the pass, trail 601 runs past Rifugio Fredarola to the Belvedere, then the Bindelweg leads to Passo Fedaia. Allow 2 hours 15 minutes for 7 km4.3 mi, 300 m984 ft of climbing and 480 m1,575 ft of descent. It is a one-way walk: plan your return.

The German war cemetery at the pass holds the graves of 9,431 soldiers of the two world wars. It is open every day, from 7 am to 7 pm in summer and from 8 am to 4 pm in winter.
