Rifugio Munt de Sennes is perched at 2,176 m7,139 ft on the exposed Sennes plateau, a vast and treeless high-altitude grassland in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park. The setting is unlike anything else in the Dolomites - a seemingly endless expanse of rolling alpine meadow dotted with sinkholes and karst formations, surrounded by distant peaks on all sides.

The most common approach is from Pederü, climbing through forest past Rifugio Fodara Vedla before emerging onto the open plateau. The trail from Rifugio Biella to the north offers an alternative route through equally wild terrain. Both approaches require at least two hours of steady hiking with no shelter along the way.

With just 15 beds, this is one of the smallest staffed refuges in the region. The hut operates as a converted alpine farmhouse and serves simple but filling meals. Sunset on the Sennes plateau is extraordinary - the light sweeps across the grassland and illuminates the silhouettes of Monte Sella di Sennes and the distant Hohe Gaisl. Advance booking is essential.
