Rifugio Passo Staulanza is located at 1,783 m5,850 ft at the top of Passo Staulanza, the mountain pass connecting Selva di Cadore to Zoldo Alto in the heart of the Venetian Dolomites. The hut sits in a dramatic position between two of the range's most imposing mountains - Monte Pelmo (3,168 m10,394 ft) to the east and Monte Civetta (3,220 m10,564 ft) to the west.

The pass is directly accessible by car, making this one of the easiest refuges to reach in the Dolomites. From here, trails fan out in every direction - the most popular being the classic ascent of Monte Pelmo via the Flaiban-Pacherini route and the traverse toward Rifugio Coldai beneath the north face of Civetta.

The hut is a recognized stop on the Alta Via 1, which crosses the pass on its journey from Lago di Braies to Belluno. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed with simple but comfortable accommodation. The restaurant serves regional dishes and is open to passing motorists, making it lively even on quieter hiking days.
